Happy Halloween from Dave’s Warehouse

Trick or treat! It’s the most wonderful time of the year for kids and kids-at-heart! Did you know that the word “Halloween” means “hallowed evening” or “holy evening”? The holiday that we associate with all things ghoulish and spooky actually stems from the Celtic festival called “Samhain.” Samhain was celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. Spirits and fairies were thought to be particularly active this time of year and the souls of the dead were said to have the ability to revisit their homes. People dressed in costumes to ward off those spirits and fairies, and this later evolved to what we now know as trick-or-treating.

You can thank the Irish and Scottish for bringing this fun tradition to the United States during the 19th century, and it started to be widely celebrated at the start of the 20th century. Other ways people celebrate are with bonfires, bobbing for apples and setting off fireworks. But, of course, nothing will ever match the fun and excitement of dressing up in a fun or scary costume and going from door to door, saying “Trick or treat!”

So what are you doing to prepare for Halloween this year? Are you decorating your house? Coming up with the perfect costume to win the costume contest at the office or at school? Are you planning on handing out tasty treats, or are you thinking you might get more tricks than treats this year? Share your comments and stories on our Facebook or Twitter pages!

Getting your Product on Convenience Store Shelves

So, you have a product that you know would be perfect for convenience store shelves. But, how do you get it there? You start small. Work with a few local stores, and work your way up. In this blog, we're going to expand on this and give some advice on how to get your product into convenience stores. It's not necessarily going to be easy, but when you know the right way to go about things, you have a better chance of things working out in your factor.

Desirable Product
Is your product something that people are going to need? If it is, then you're set. If people don't view it that way, then you need to find a way to make people need your product. You have to showcase why it's useful and valuable. Show people the benefits and how it will help their everyday lives. When convenience store owners are looking at new products to add to their stores, they will want products that are in demand.

Start Small
Like we mentioned before, start small. Test your product on a few local stores and then grow your business. You'll want to make sure it's a product that goes over well in your particular area. Theoretically, you should know the local clientele better than anyone else. If it goes over in your local area, it may be a hit. If it's not, then you'll know how you need to revamp your product moving forward.

Get Yourself Out There
When you're trying to market a new product, you have to be proactive. You'll also need a way to get your product into stores. That's where we come in. As one of the largest distribution centers in North Carolina, we can help you get your product from here to there.
